Hiding stones

2/15/2017

In June 2016, when I started dotting stones, I thought it would be great to drop them around the city, for others to find and add an extra smile on people's faces.  Little did I know that this idea was gaining traction throughout the USA and parts of the world. (For more information on the rock hiding groups, please see GET INVOLVED page).

Fast forward to January 2017 and I dropped some stones along a snow trail one Sunday morning.  On my return, I came across a little girl finding one stone and exclaimed "look another rock" and immediately put it in her pocket.  There is something so heart-warming about spreading anonymous cheer.

My first Craft fair

On Saturday, I showcased my dot art, with my very first craft fair!  It was very interesting, and I learnt a lot!

Comments from people included:
"so much detailed work"
"so different"
"it amazes me how talented some people are"

Not so long ago, that used to be me making these comments about the talent of others, but like them, I did not have an avenue to express my creativity.  It still amazes me that I have created something that someone else loves.

While it got slow in the afternoon, I got my fellow vendor neighbour to try out the dotting tools. The picture on the left is her very first creation.  She was at first hesitant to do it, but after some persuading she realised that it is very easy to do.  (She thought she only had a talent for knitting!).

Review - creativity

"Drawing stick men was the furthest I thought my creativity reached, and then Kim introduced me to painting Mandala stones.  I love playing with the various shapes and colours and am always surprised at what I've created when I'm done.

Being a counselor, I'm aware of the physiological benefits of colouring, and there are many, but creating a different design with every stone requires me to use my imagination, something I once thought was restricted to those stick men - I'm happy to discover that I have much more imagination at my disposal.

My beautiful stones are now in home in various places ~ they make me smile every time I see them.  I hope you get to enjoy creating your own mandala stone designs."

In the first of the series, we will be showcasing non-artist's very first Mandala Stones.

Artist level: Beginner
Creator: Kim Mackay - designer of the Mandala Dotting Tools and DIY Mandala Stone Kit.

"This is my first ever Mandala Stone, that I made for my fairy garden.  I was so surprised at how amazing this turned out and how easy it was.
I decided to only seal over the painted area, which actually frames the design perfectly."

Learn more about how she created the Mandala Dotting Tools.
